When architects Ben Crenshaw and partner Bill Coore designed this course, they focused on the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country. They harmoniously wove rolling hills, natural plateaus, soft contours and native vegetation into a playable championship layout with a variety of interesting holes designed to delight members and visitors alike.
The greens are large and well contoured offering a challenge for even the best putters, and the course features numerous large fairways and greenside bunkers. Water comes into play on only two of the 18 holes. (Par: 71,Yardage: 6,553)
Unlike the flashier Fazio Course, Crenshaw's work at Barton Creek typifies his traditionalist style, a tribute to his dedication as one of the game's great historians. There's more of a natural feel to playing on of his courses, and more pure golf enjoyment for the layman because they actually have a chance to hit the wide fairways and monstrous greens.
